
The Ministry of Finance of Belgium has confirmed plans to introduce mandatory business-to-business (B2B) e-invoicing starting in July 2024. This expands the current e-invoicing mandate for business-to-government (B2G), which has been in place in Belgium since 2019.
The plan also includes some form of near-live e-reporting. This proposal has yet to be presented to Parliament and formalized into law, which could potentially happen this summer.
Although no new technical details have been disclosed, Belgium is likely to require taxpayers to interchange e-invoices using a PEPPOL-based system and additionally, report those transactions to the Belgian tax authority in near-live time (e-reporting).
Although the timeline is subject to change, it will likely follow a gradual rollout beginning in July 2024:
